Sowing & Care (Quick Guide)

Season: Warm-season annual — best sown Feb–Apr and Jun–Aug in North India; in mild climates almost year-round. Avoid frost.
Soil & Site: Loose, well-drained loamy or sandy-loam soil; average fertility is fine (too rich = more leaves, fewer flowers). Sunny, airy location.
Sowing Depth & Spacing: Sow 0.5–1 cm deep. Direct sow or start in trays/pots and transplant at 3–4 true leaves. Space plants 25–35 cm apart with rows 35–45 cm apart. For containers, one plant per 10–12 in pot (2–3 for a fuller display in larger tubs).
Sunlight & Water: Full sun (6–8 hours) for best flowering. Water moderately and allow the topsoil to dry slightly between waterings; avoid waterlogging. Tolerates heat and short dry spells once established.
Feeding & Maintenance: Light feeder—mix in compost at planting; avoid heavy nitrogen. Pinch tips once at 4–6 true leaves to encourage branching and more blooms. Deadhead spent flowers to prolong blooming.
Germination: 5–10 days (best at 20–28 °C).
Bloom Time: 60–80 days from sowing (varies by climate). Excellent as cut flowers; harvest when blooms are just open for long vase life.
Packaging: Resealable pouch to keep seeds fresh; store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight.
