Sowing & Care (Quick Guide)

Season: Warm-season annual — best sown Feb–Apr and Jun–Sep in North India; in mild climates almost year-round. Avoid frost.
Soil & Site: Loose, fertile, well-drained loamy soil rich in organic matter; sunny, airy location.
Sowing Depth & Spacing: Sow 0.5–1 cm deep. Start in trays/pots and transplant at 3–4 true leaves, or direct sow. Space plants 20–30 cm apart (30–40 cm for larger types) with rows 30–45 cm apart. For containers, one plant per 8–12 in pot.
Sunlight & Water: Full sun (6–8 hours) for best flowering. Keep soil evenly moist; avoid waterlogging. Mulch helps keep roots cool.
Pinching & Feeding: Pinch the tip once at 4–6 true leaves to encourage branching and more blooms. Feed lightly with compost or balanced fertilizer at bud formation.
Germination: 5–10 days (best at 20–28 °C).
Bloom Time: 50–70 days from sowing (varies by climate). Deadhead spent flowers to prolong flowering; blooms last well in sunny beds and containers.
