Sowing & Care (Quick Guide)

Season: Warm-season crop — best sown Feb–Apr and Jun–Aug in North India; in mild climates almost year-round.
Soil & Site: Loose, fertile, well-drained loamy soil rich in organic matter; choose a sunny, airy spot.
Sowing Depth & Spacing: Sow 0.5–1 cm deep. Start in trays/pots and transplant at 4–6 true leaves; space plants 30–45 cm apart with rows 45–60 cm apart. For containers, one plant per 10–14 in pot.
Sunlight & Water: Full sun (6–8 hours). Keep soil evenly moist; avoid waterlogging and prolonged drought.
Support & Feeding: Stake if needed; feed lightly with compost or balanced fertilizer during flowering/fruiting.
Germination: 7–14 days (faster in 25–30 °C).
Harvest: 70–90 days from transplant for green chillies; 90–120 days for ripe red (varies by variety & climate). Pick regularly to boost yield.
