Sowing & Care (Quick Guide)

Season: Warm-season annual — best sown Feb–Apr and Jun–Aug in North India; in mild climates almost year-round. Avoid frost and prolonged cold/wet weather.
Soil & Site: Loose, well-drained soil with good grit or sand; average fertility is fine. Choose a hot, sunny, airy location.
Sowing Depth & Spacing: Surface-sow or cover very lightly (0.3–0.5 cm). Start in trays/pots and transplant at 2–3 true leaves, or direct sow. Space plants 10–15 cm apart; for containers, 3–5 plants per 8–10 in pot for a fuller look.
Sunlight & Water: Full sun (6–8 hours) for best flowering. Water sparingly—allow the topsoil to dry between waterings; avoid waterlogging. Tolerates drought and heat once established.
Feeding & Maintenance: Light feeder—mix in compost at planting; avoid heavy nitrogen. Deadhead lightly if needed to tidy plants and encourage more blooms.
Germination: 7–14 days (best at 22–30 °C).
Bloom Time: 45–60 days from sowing (varies by climate). Flowers open in bright sunlight and close in late afternoon or on cloudy days.
