Sowing & Care (Quick Guide)

Season: Warm-season crop — best sown Feb–Apr and Jun–Aug in North India; in mild climates can be grown almost year-round.
Soil & Site: Loose, fertile, well-drained loamy soil rich in organic matter; choose a sunny, airy spot.
Sowing Depth & Spacing: Sow 0.5–1 cm deep. Start in trays/pots and transplant at 3–4 true-leaf stage; space plants 45–60 cm apart with rows 60–75 cm apart. For containers, use 12–16 inch pots (one plant per pot).
Sunlight & Water: Full sun (6–8 hours). Keep soil evenly moist; avoid waterlogging and wetting the foliage late in the day.
Support: Stake or cage plants as they grow to keep fruit off the ground and improve airflow.
Germination: 5–10 days (depends on temperature; 20–30 °C is ideal).
Harvest: 70–90 days from transplant (varies by variety & climate), when fruits are fully red and firm.
