Sowing & Care (Quick Guide)

Season: Cool-season crop — best Sep–Mar in North India; in mild climates almost year-round; avoid peak summer heat to prevent bolting.
Soil: Loose, friable, well-drained loamy soil rich in organic matter; keep beds level and clod-free.
Sowing Depth & Spacing: Split/crush seeds lightly, soak 6–12 hours (optional). Sow 1–2 cm deep; rows 15–20 cm apart; broadcast or line sowing both work. Thin to 8–10 cm if growing for seeds.
Sunlight & Water: Full sun to light shade (4–6 hours sun is fine). Keep soil evenly moist; avoid waterlogging.
Germination: 7–14 days (faster in 18–25 °C).
