Sowing & Care (Quick Guide)
Season: Cool-season crop — best Sep–Mar in North India; in mild climates almost year-round; avoid peak summer heat to prevent bolting.
Soil: Loose, fertile, well-drained loamy soil rich in organic matter; keep beds level and clod-free.
Sowing Depth & Spacing: Sow 1–2 cm deep; rows 15–20 cm apart; thin seedlings to 8–10 cm apart (broadcast sowing also works for baby leaves).
Sunlight & Water: Full sun to light shade (4–6 hours sun is fine). Keep soil evenly moist; avoid waterlogging. Mulch helps retain moisture.
Germination: 5–10 days (faster in 15–22 °C).
Harvest: 25–40 days for tender baby leaves (cut-and-come-again); full-sized leaves in 40–60 days. Harvest outer leaves to extend picking.
Packaging: Resealable pouch to keep seeds fresh; store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight.
