Din Ka Raja in 8″Pot

An erect, fast-growing evergreen woody shrub (2–4 m / 6–13 ft tall, sometimes a small tree to 6 m). Branches are leafy, green with pale lenticels when young, turning fawn with age. Leaves are simple, alternate, glossy dark green above and paler beneath, ovate-lanceolate, 7–15 cm × 2.5–4 cm (3–6 × 1–1.5 in), with an obtuse tip and short petiole (∼1 cm). Inflorescences are axillary clusters on short peduncles, each with many tubular flowers. Flowers: narrow funnel-shaped white to greenish-white corolla ∼1.5–2 cm long, with 5 obtuse, recurved lobes; intensely sweet, chocolate-like fragrance released during the day (peak morning–afternoon, fading by evening). Berries are small, round, ripening from green to dark purple-black; each contains 4–10 seeds. All parts (especially unripe berries) contain glycoalkaloids and are toxic if ingested; leaves contain vitamin D analogs that can cause calcium toxicity in livestock.

Quick care: full sun to light partial shade (≥5–6 hrs for best bloom). Prefers moist, well-drained loam (tolerates a wide pH, 6–8). Water regularly—keep soil consistently moist but not waterlogged; once established it tolerates brief drought. Warm climate; hardy USDA 9–11 (dies back below ∼0–5 °C/32–40 °F). Feed every 4–6 weeks in growing season with balanced fertilizer (10-10-10) or compost. Prune after flowering to shape, control spread, and encourage branching; can be kept 1–2 m as a hedge. Propagate by seeds (birds disperse) or semi-ripe cuttings. Few pests; watch for whiteflies, aphids. Use as screen, border, or fragrant specimen; birds love the berries (seeds can self-seed, so monitor for invasiveness).
