An evergreen shrub or twining vine, typically 1–3 m (3–10 ft) tall and wide (can reach 6–10 ft with support); compact and slower-growing than many J. sambac types, good for containers. Leaves are opposite, simple, glossy dark green, broadly ovate to elliptic, 4–12 cm × 2–7.5 cm, with entire margins and prominent veins. Flowers are the standout feature: large, double (fully double or semi-double), starry white blooms 3–5 cm (1–2 in) across, borne in small clusters from spring through fall (year-round in warm climates). Buds are long, pointed, opening to pure white, intensely sweet jasmine scent, strongest in evening. The cultivar ‘Elongata Belle of India’ has larger, more starry, extra-free-flowering blooms.

Quick care: full sun to bright shade (≥4–6 hrs; best bloom in full sun, but some afternoon shade in very hot zones). Warmth lover 20–32 °C (68–90 °F); USDA 9–11 outdoors, otherwise treat as patio plant and overwinter indoors above 15 °C (60 °F). Soil rich, free-draining (loam + peat + sand or perlite), pH 6–7. Keep evenly moist—water thoroughly, then allow top 2–5 cm to dry; reduce in winter. Feed every 2–4 weeks in spring–summer with balanced fertilizer or high-phosphorus bloom booster. Prune after flowering or in late winter to shape and encourage branching (flowers on new growth); can be kept small by trimming. Propagate by semi-ripe cuttings or layering in warm season. Watch for aphids, mealybugs, whiteflies, spider mites. Great for trellis, pots, entryways; flowers used for garlands, tea, perfume.
