Lucky Bamboo Spiral Stick

A slow-growing evergreen shrub with a smooth, green, segmented cane (the “stick”). The spiral shape is created by training young, flexible stems around a light source—shoots bend toward light, so rotating the cane produces the corkscrew curve. Height varies by size sold (30–90 cm/12–36 in). Leaves sprout from the top node: narrow, lanceolate, glossy green, 7–20 cm long and 1–2.5 cm wide, with parallel veins; often a rosette of 4–10 leaves. Roots are fibrous, white to reddish, and will anchor in water or soil. Flowers are rare indoors (small white spike). All parts contain saponins—mildly toxic to pets if ingested.

Quick care: bright, indirect light is ideal (east/north window; low light tolerated but growth slows; direct sun scorches leaves). Can be grown in water or soil. In water: keep roots submerged 3–5 cm in clean water (filtered/distilled/rainwater preferred—tap chlorine/fluoride causes brown tips); change water every 7–14 days, rinse container and pebbles to prevent algae. In soil: use well-draining houseplant mix with perlite; water when top 2–3 cm is dry (keep evenly moist, not soggy). Temperature 18–27 °C (65–80 °F); avoid <14 °C (57 °F) and cold drafts. Humidity average; occasional misting helps. Feed very lightly: a few drops of liquid houseplant fertilizer every 4–6 weeks (or every 2 months in water), at quarter strength. Prune yellow leaves; trim roots if overcrowded. Propagate by cutting a shoot just above a node and rooting in water.
