Araucaria plant 1-1.5ft in 8″ Pot

A young 1–1.5 ft (30–45 cm) plant is a juvenile seedling with a straight central leader and 3–5 tiers of branches. Growth form is a perfect pyramid: a single upright trunk with whorls of horizontal branches spaced 5–10 cm apart, each whorl forming a symmetrical “floor.” At this size the bark is smooth, light grey-brown; the stem is flexible and slender (4–6 mm diameter). Foliage is entirely juvenile—soft, awl-shaped, bright green needles 7–12 mm long, slightly incurved, arranged spirally along the branchlets, giving a feathery, airy look. Branches are delicate and will bend under weight (not stiff enough for ornaments). Growth is slow indoors—about 5–10 cm (2–4 in) per year; a 1–1.5 ft plant is typically 2–3 years old. Outdoors in the tropics it becomes a 50–65 m tree; in containers it tops out around 1.8–2.4 m (6–8 ft) after many years.

Quick care: bright indirect light (east or filtered south/west window, ∼6 hrs); avoid harsh direct sun which scorches juvenile needles, and avoid low light which causes leggy, uneven tiers. Rotate weekly for symmetry. Temperatures 15–24 °C (60–75 °F) days, 13–18 °C (55–65 °F) nights; minimum ∼10 °C (50 °F) (damage below 7 °C/45 °F). Humidity 40–60%—mist occasionally or use a pebble tray; dry air causes brown tips. Soil: acidic to neutral, well-drained mix (potting soil 50% + peat 20% + coarse sand/perlite 30%). Keep evenly moist but not soggy; water when top 2–3 cm dry, allow to drain, discard excess; reduce in winter (every 7–10 days). Feed every 4–6 weeks in spring–summer with dilute balanced or acid-loving fertilizer; none in winter. Repot only every 3–4 years (likes being slightly root-bound); use pot with drainage holes. Don’t prune the leader—cutting the top stops upward growth; remove only dead lower branches. Watch for spider mites, mealybugs, root rot from overwatering. Non-toxic but sap can irritate. Great tabletop accent and miniature “Christmas tree.”
