Aloevera in 6″Pot

A stemless (or very short-stemmed) evergreen succulent in the Asphodelaceae family, likely native to the Arabian Peninsula (NE Oman/Yemen region) and now naturalized across warm, dry regions worldwide. It forms a basal rosette of thick, fleshy, lance-shaped leaves that grow upright then slightly arch. Leaves are 30–50 cm (12–20 in) long, 5–8 cm (2–3 in) wide, gray-green to bright green, often with faint white spots when young; margins have soft, pale teeth. Leaves contain a clear gel (acemannan) used topically for minor burns and skin irritation, plus a bitter yellow latex (aloin) just under the rind. Mature plants freely produce offsets (“pups”) around the base, forming clumps. In warm conditions it can send up a 60–90 cm (2–3 ft) spike of tubular yellow-orange flowers (rare indoors).

Quick care: bright light—ideally 6+ hours of bright indirect to some direct morning/evening sun (south- or west-facing window); too little light makes leaves stretch/ flop, too much harsh midday sun can scorch. Water deeply but infrequently: let the top third of the potting mix (or all of it) dry out completely, then water thoroughly and drain—about every 2–3 weeks in spring/summer, every 4–6 weeks (or less) in fall/winter. Use a gritty cactus/succulent mix in a terracotta pot with drainage; overwatering causes root rot. Temps 13–27 °C (55–80 °F); bring indoors below 10 °C (50 °F). Low humidity is fine—no misting. Fertilize sparingly (once in spring at half strength, optional). Repot every 2–3 years; propagate by dividing pups. Gel is safe for topical use; aloin/latex is irritant if ingested and toxic to pets.
