Dracaena Reflexa(Song of Jamaica ) in 6″ Pot

A tropical evergreen shrub in the Asparagaceae family, native to Madagascar and Indian Ocean islands. It has an upright, sparsely branching habit with slender woody stems. Leaves are elliptic to lance-shaped, 10–20 cm (4–8 in) long, borne in dense spirals/whorls along the stems—creating a lush, architectural look. ‘Song of Jamaica’ is variegated: dark glossy green leaf margins with a broad chartreuse to lime-green central stripe (variegation intensity varies with light). Indoors it typically reaches 1–2 m (3–6 ft) over 5–10 years; outdoors in the tropics it can hit 2–5 m. Mature plants may produce small greenish-white flowers and orange-red berries, but rarely indoors.

Quick care: bright, indirect light is best (east/west window; tolerates medium light but variegation fades; avoid harsh midday sun that scorches). Keep soil moist but well-drained—water when the top 2–5 cm (1–2 in) are dry; don’t let it sit soggy (root rot). Prefers warmth 18–24 °C (65–75 °F), average to moderate humidity (40–60 %); brown tips may appear in very dry air. Use peat-free loam-based or all-purpose potting mix with good drainage. Feed monthly in spring–summer with a balanced liquid fertilizer at half strength; cut back in winter. Repot every 2–3 years in spring into a pot only 2–5 cm larger. Propagate by semi-ripe stem cuttings in late spring–early summer (bottom heat helps). Mildly toxic if ingested—keep away from pets.
