Pandanus Variegated in 8″PotProduct Description
A tropical evergreen in the Pandanaceae family, native to the Pacific Islands (Polynesia/ Oceania). It’s a smaller, shrubby form of the screw pine that forms a short trunk and a rosette of long, strap-like leaves arranged in a spiral (“screw” pattern). Leaves are sword-shaped, 60–90 cm (2–3 ft) long indoors, pale green with bold creamy-white margins; edges and midribs have small sharp spines, so handle with care. With age it may develop stilt-like aerial prop roots around the base. Outdoors it can reach 4–8 m; as a houseplant it stays compact, usually 0.6–1.5 m (2–5 ft) tall.
Quick care: bright, indirect light (tolerates some gentle morning sun; too much direct sun scorches the white edges, too little causes variegation to fade). Keep soil consistently moist but well-drained—water when the top 2–3 cm feels dry; don’t let it sit waterlogged or dry out completely. Loves warmth (18–29 °C / 65–85 °F) and high humidity (50 %+; mist lightly, use a pebble tray, or a humidifier; brown tips mean air is too dry). Use a loose, loamy mix (peat/ coco coir + perlite + sand). Feed every 3–4 weeks in spring–summer with a balanced liquid fertilizer at half strength; reduce in winter. Repot every 1–2 years in spring; tuck aerial roots into the pot. Watch for scale and spider mites indoors. Caution: leaf margins are spiny; sap may irritate skin.
